The history of Woodchester Mansion.

Haunted Woodchester Mansion Woodchester Mansion.. Well known amongst the ghost hunting fraternity is open for investigation to Paranormal Nights and its’ intrepid ghost hunters! This curious building, never quite complete, sits alone in a secluded valley in the Gloucester countryside. But the serenity of the scene belies much ghostly activity! Woodchester was begun in the mid 1800’s and its’ rise saw to the demolition of an old Georgian house known as Spring Park. Back then it was the ecclesiastical links between Benjamin Bucknall, architect, and William Leigh, owner, that saw to the development of Woodchester. Bucknall’s following of the works of Viollet-le-Duc’s Gothic Medieval restorations ensured the house would be built in this style and be endowed with equally striking features. Its layout though was almost monastic and perhaps designed only for occasional residence? Oddly enough that’s all it would ever see and Woodchester would never really know a family call it ‘home’. The Second World war saw its’ greatest level of occupancy as American and Canadian troops used the property. Then the post war era bit and the house fell out of favour to a world desperate for the new and the modern.

Not until the 1980’s does it’s condition get addressed and thereon the preservation continues.. We will explore this curious property and see if it perhaps is only the wind that makes its’ way down empty corridors? Or is there something there? Something other than the lack of money that saw its’ builders up and leave the mansion incomplete! Indeed does this site merit its scary reputation? Investigate with us and find out..
